To the Creative this may concern,

Vocal Type Co., is not just a type design co. It's a response. It's a response to the lack of diversity and empathy, and the persistance of stereotypes in the creative industry. This lack of diversity in terms of race, ethnicity, and gender, has led to a lack of diversity in systems (like education) and ideas.

Part of the reason I started this company was because every time I sought out inspiration for my current branding or print or web project, the more everything looked the same, and the less I saw culture and identity. And while design is my passion, I began to question whether or not I had chosen the right career.

So I decided to find a way to increase diversity and empathy in the design industry. I knew I couldn't just change the demographics or the education system, so I tried to figure out a way to inject the non-stereotypical side of minority culture into design itself. That led to the founding of Vocal Type Co.

That's why this isn't your traditional type design company. The original hand-lettering and letterpress designs, with their natural imperfections and immense amount of character: that's what inspires these creations. Type made by ordinary, everyday, non-18th century dead type designer, non-design people, who simply wanted to stand up for what they believe in.

So we ask that you dare to be different, dare to be true, and use your voice.

More power to you,
Tré Seals, Founder
